The mission of the organization is to assist young people in obtaining reliable transportation so they have the means and opportunity to get on the road to success, providing a “hand up” not a “hand out”. Helping people obtain reliable transportation will increase the number of employable individuals, build the local workforce and benefit the entire community. Providing the opportunity of car ownership will reduce the feeling of hopelessness and promote a sense of pride and well-being, leading to a more productive life.

The idea is to level the playing field, attack generational poverty and help young adults on a pathway to a better life. This will be accomplished by offering low interest loans for cars, and the associated taxes, insurance, registration and repairs. In addition, as the payments are made, the recipients will begin to build their credit rating.

It takes a village! This program requires community partners, not only for education, but car sourcing and repairs. car dealerships, bankers, insurance agents, auto mechanics, tow companies, employers and mentors!! There is no better place to do this than Excelsior Springs, where we are all growing together.

Before they can apply to the program, potential candidates must have completed 6 weeks of continuous employment. In addition, they must attend informational classes covering the following principles:

1. “The Guiding Light” Credit Counseling to learn how to build credit and how credit rating impacts numerous aspects of one’s life.
2. Basic insurance education
3. Responsibilities of Car Ownership, keeping the car safe and roadworthy.
4. Routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire pressure and rotation, checking fluids etc.
5. Basics of car towing

In addition to the benefit of helping individuals, the program is intended to help others in need via a pay it forward approach. This is accomplished through the repayment of funds by the recipients which then become available to help the next young person and so on. Your donation keeps on giving.

How many cars can you buy if you keep recycling the funds?
